Infinite - Glitch Experimental Media

Overall, throughout my experience with this project, I have demonstrated the unique skills linked to the Glitch 2011 manifesto which I wished to pursue even if it was not required as it felt like it had a personal connection to the direction I took to present perspective. The main rule I wished to pursue within the manifesto was the aim for glitch to be seen as an opportunity for art, hence, a different perspective on something that’s seen in a negative way. I aimed to demonstrate multiple different techniques that not only tied to glitch including the use of archive footage, manipulation of time, data moshing and corruption.

Throughout my creative process, I took inspiration from other previous works including the usage of archival footage to create an anthropomorphised character speak which creating this eery superior being that aimed to educate the viewer on the power of infinite perspective. Furthermore, the intention of displaying ‘infinite perspective’ had originated from my understanding that the corruption of files is a perfect replica of the way in which different applications can view the same thing, same way each individual living being sees things or reacts to something different, even the finer details. This was displayed predominantly through the application Sublime Text which I spent most of my time on within the original experimentation period. Avidemux also played a smaller part within the project at the end to assist in creating an intense build-up of sound and visuals to then sudden simplicity all blended using different masking techniques within Adobe Premiere Pro. I am quite proud of the project as it creates a unique short story that includes the complications of glitch but aims to not overwhelm the viewer, rather put them slightly on the edge through the vintage television character.
